Decorator's tip - Care for your bed linen
New be linen is a relatively inexpensive way to give your bedroom a fresh look. Follow these tips to keep your bedding looking in tip-top condition for longer.
1) The life of your bed linen will largely depend on its quality, so buy bedding with the highest thread count you can afford. Egyptian cotton is the highest in quality.
2) Bedding needs to be stored in an area with good air circulation, so place your linens in unlined wardrobes or drawers, open-weave baskets or acid-free cardboard boxes.
3) Slip cedar blocks in between items to deter moths, and unwrapped guest soaps or lavender bags to keep linens scented even after the laundry detergent smell has faded.
4) When washing, follow the care label, but remember that a cooler setting and gentler cycle will help keep the fabric strong, as will putting linens in alone rather than with heavy towels. Give bedding an extra rinse - soap residue decreases its softness over time.
5) Protect delicate items in zip-up laundry bags (available at Lakeland)
