Beyond the ordinary facade of Samantha and Nigel Fenn's Victorian terraced home lies a breathtaking, light-filled space

Converting the property

During the lengthy project, the Fenns pushed the house outwards and downwards. When they bought their home three-and-a-half years ago, Samantha and her stockbroker husband Nigel were attracted to its sunny corner location. "It was newly carpeted and decorated, but the kitchen and the bathrooms were dated," says Samantha.


Wisely, they took their time to decide what improvements they would make, living in the house for six months before even consulting an architect. The one plan they were set on was to create a basement floor and, as soon as work started, they moved out.
