* Busy family kitchens need pratical seating options which are robust and easy to clean. Plastic or perspex designs are ideal, as are sturdy wooden chairs.
* Upholstered or leather chairs will add comfort and create a more formal feel in a kitchen-diner, but it's worth considering slip-on covers which can be washed if there are spillages.
* Don't be afraid to mix and match styles. You could team casual wooden chairs with a couple of formal wicker or upholstered chairs at each end of the table for an eclectic mix.
* It's worth considering the bottom of the chairs and how they will work with the flooring in your kitchen. If you have laminate or vinyl flooring, most chairs will move around smoothly without damaging the floor; however, ceramic or natural floor tiles may get scratched so add floor protector pads to the bottoms of the feet.
