Create a traditional living room with a pretty floral-print sofa and restful shades of sage, taupe and chalky white.
Traditional floral-print sofas like this work well in a scheme that compliments the fabric motif and sofa shape. We used natural flooring, wood furniture and sage walls to create a modern country-house feel around this classic piece.
Decorator's tip: Use everlasting flowers
There's nothing lovelier than fresh-cut flowers to brighten up a room but it can be an expensive habit, so try these two equally beautiful alternatives instead.
Go faux Silk and fake flowers have been transformed in recent years, thanks to the likes of Bloom & Green, John Lewis and Jane Packer at Debenhams.
With such a wide range to choose from, the trick is to bring out seasonal ‘blooms’ when they would appear if real, that way visitors will be fooled into thinking they’re real.
Fake orchids look the part all year round and are a great investment, particularly if you’ve never had much joy in keeping real ones
Dry flowerheads Plan ahead and you can have lovely dried hydrangea heads in autumn. Buy a potted hydrangea plant this summer, which will give your outdoor space fantastic colour.
Don’t forget to water during the hot months.
Leave the flowerheads on the shrub until they are beginning to go over, usually around late September. Cut from the plant leaving a long stem, then display in a vase without water – it’s that simple!
