'Classic yet fully integrated appliances with proven energy-efficiency ratings will be in demand, ' says Job Rosby, MD of John Lewis of Hungerford. 'Sustainability in this sense is going to be about clever appliances that will reduce the amount of energy the homeowner uses.' Charlie Sharples, a designer at Roundhouse, agrees that environmentally-friendly kitchen choices will be big news in 2009. 'We are now using what are known as engineered as well as natural veneers. They are made from reconstituted wood, so are more eco-friendly and less expensive than exotic natural veneers. They come in all sorts of colours and patterns that don't grow on trees!' he says.
