LDC (Liquid Crystal Display) or plasma?
These two types of flat-screen TVs use different technology but are similar in quality and price. Plasmas tend to be bigger (37in and more) while LCD's come in all sizes and use much less energy.
Screen size
Measure the distance between the TV and your seating. If it's less than 2.4m you shouldn't need a screen larger than 32in; 2.4m to 3m, go for 32 to 37 in; 3 to 3.6m, you can stretch to 42 to 52in.
High definition (HD)
This marks the biggest improvement in picture quality since colour TV. Standard TVs give a picture made up of 625 lines, while HD signals increase this to either 720 or 1,080 lines.
View the web
Some HD TV manufacturers are adding internet connectivity to their sets allowing viewers to email, check the news, show photos and view websites.
Looking good
The latest designs are slimmer and better looking: the Sony KDL-32E5500 is even disguised as a picture frame.
