Steer clear of aggressive modern cleaning products and take a cautious approach. Stephen Byrne of Williams & Byrne recommends using de-ionised (purified) water and a lint-free cloth. "Start by cleaning a small sample area in an out of sight section," he says, "and be aware that colour can sometimes come off due to age or poor firing."
