* Table lamp and shade (we used Ljusas Ysby table lamp, £49, IKEA)

* Fabric marker pen

* Flat-backed buttons in two sizes (we used mother-of-pearl cut buttons, from £5.95 each, MacCulloch & Wallis)

* Fast-drying two-part adhesive such as epoxy resin
