I want to dress my bed and curtains with a South American theme, do you have any non-gaudy ideas?
My boyfriend and I are about to move into our first home together. We've bought a three-bed house and I'm in charge of the main spare bedroom. I love bright colours and have found some Mexican-inspired furniture which I am going to use. To go with this I need to dress the curtains and double bed with something South American inspired. I don't want to end up looking too gaudy, but I'd also like to have some fun. Do you have any ideas? I've found that, as yet, no-one really does a contemporary twist on these type of designs, and attractive authentic fabrics are hard to come by in the UK. I think a better solution is to find strong, solid-colour fabrics for the bedding and curtains and accessorise them with accent stripes and prints (these fabrics are Ashley Hicks by David Hicks and you can find them at Leejofa Take a look at the Mayan textiles at Maya updated with something by the artist Bridget Riley or from the world of fashion DavidDavid. But, like you say, it's about inspiration, not creating entire themed rooms.
