Latest trends in carpets

We’ve been busy quizzing some of the top carpet experts to bring you this year's hottest looks for carpets

Trend 1: make a statement with colour

‘Neutral carpets have been the top colour choice in carpets for years, and while they continue to be popular, there is a definite move to brighter colours’, says Ray Snell, Designer at Ulster.

A bright colour is the perfect way to really make a statement in your room. Use it with wooden furniture and light walls to stop it becoming overpowering. Try picking out the colour shade of the carpet in accessories around the room.

Trend 2: add interest with pattern

‘In the same way we’ve witnessed a wallpaper revival now pattern makes a welcome return to floors’, says Gary Mcdonald, designer at Brintons.

‘Patterned carpets are an ideal way to break up large expanses of floor space’, says Richard Lawrence, from Axminster Carpets, ‘it doesn’t have to be overpowering, subtle designs are a great way to add interest to your flooring and creating a look that will last’.

Trend 3: warm up with texture

‘Chunky loop pile textures have become big news, this style of carpet combined with flecks of colour creates a really rustic feel. Perfect for a more textured look’, says John Richardson, from Cavalier Carpets.

Choosing carpets with a textured look is an easy way to cosy-up a scheme and ideal to warm up large rooms.
