• If you’re running out of ground space, use a hanging basket to grow herbs. Load the basket with compost and fill it with basil, sage and parsley that will overhang the edges. Hang the basket grabbing distance from the back door.
• Only got a patio? Use planters to grow tomatoes, herbs and even potatoes in a deep pot or barrel.
• A windowsill is all you need to grow fresh chillies – buy ready-potted plants from Anna Valley Chillies
• Protect seedlings and young plants from late spring frosts with a cloche. Useful in the summer too, these mini greenhouses protect plants from hungry slugs and aphids. Try Crocus and The Greenhouse People.
