- Re-cover an old director's chair
Update a tired-looking director's chair with new covers, choosing a fabric that will bring a splash of summer colour to your patio or decking area.
Time
45 min
You will need:
• An old director’s chair
• 1m deck-chair canvas fabric
• Four wooden dowling rods (although this will depend on the style of the back of the chair; some don’t need dowels for the back)
• Sewing machine and thread
How to do it
Remove the old seat and back panels and use as templates. Cut out two panels of fabric with 2cm extra each side to make into channels. Sew dowel-sized channels down the sides of both panels, and slot the dowels in. Folding the chair slightly, slide the fabric-covered dowels into the grooves in the main frame and check the fabric is taut when the chair is open.
