You don't have to stick to conventional square decks. Deck boards can be laid and cut in a number of ways and shapes. Try marking out the area with wooden pegs and string to help you visualise the size.
If you have floorboards inside your home, consider staining the decking a similar colour for a co-ordinating look.
Alternatively, consider the style of your garden and stain your decking to complement the planting. For example, a grey or black deck will suit contemporary, architectural plants, while a more natural finish will work well in a cottage garden.
