Smart botanical

Begin with an oversized print in fresh apple green for a modern take on classic English-garden style. Balance the look with neutral upholstery, and limit accessories to tonal shades of green. Lighten the look with glass details and artificial blooms.

Decorator's tip - Arrange a picture gallery

Hang a collection of prints in frames that are different sizes and finishes - the key to making the display work is symmetry. Get the look in five easy steps ...

1) Choose a theme for your prints - we've used botanical sketches, but you could go for anything from architecture to a family gallery.
2) To unify the look, choose frames in different shades of one colour - we've used different dark-wood tones, from mahogany to walnut.
3) To arrange your prints in a group, imagine an outer frame and position your frames within it so that the outer edges form a square or rectangle. Start with the top left corner, then the other three corners and fill in the middle. Practice this on the floor first until you get the shape right.
4) When you're happy with the arrangement, measure the size of the imaginary outer frame, and mark it on the wall with low-tack masking tape.
5) Once you've marked the display area out of the wall, hang the frames so the outer edges line up with your masking tape.
