How to choose artwork

Our insiders' guide to buying artwork gives you advice from the experts on how to create a unique look.

The internet

Online galleries often include artists' biographies and you can also search using keywords or by budget.
Sites like Eyestorm.com and Canvasuk.org, a charitable organisation that supports deserving causes and artists. Countereditions.com sells prints and multiples by well-known contemporary artists. Eyeforart.co.uk sells work by students and graduates and you can pick up limited-edition prints from 55Max.com for as little as £25 unframed, and canvases from £35.
However, it can be difficult to get a feeling for scale, texture or quality from a screen image and colour can be distorted. Before buying check there's a returns policy. Shipping costs are likely to be non-refundable. Sites may offer a framing service, but remember specially-framed prints are unlikely to be returnable.
