How to buy the right kitchen table

How to choose the right table for your kitchen space

Think about your kitchen layout

The size and shape of your kitchen table depends upon the size and layout of your kitchen. Plan where it's going to go and measure the space, allowing room for chairs. Make sure the furniture doesn't interfere with the rest of the kitchen, particularly cooker doors.

* In open-plan spaces, a large kitchen table can be used to separate the cooking zone from the dining area. A streamlined table and matching benches would work well in a compact kitchen-diner.

* If you have a U-shaped or L-shaped kitchen layout and want to put the table in the centre of the space, a round table would be the most practical shape so people can still move freely around it without banging into corners.
