How to start your own allotment

Be part of the latest ‘grow your own’ trend, by starting your very own allotment

What to expect from your plot

If you're lucky, there might be a couple of plots to choose from, so consider the orientation and condition when making your choice. It may have been neglected, so you'll have to clear it and create beds. Spend time exploring your plot, looking for signs of old beds, compost heaps and even a shed, and work with these.

Don't feel you have to clear the whole area at once, but get some plants in as soon as beds are ready to help suppress weeds.
