My kitchen ceiling is nearly 4 m high and I'm keen to find the style of light that has a large round glass globe attached to a metal rod, as this will give the necessary drop. A light with the drop you need is the Plaza pendant from Heal's. It has an opaque 26 cm diameter globe shade attached to an adjustable chrome rod and ceiling fitting giving a maximum total drop of 150 cm.

Alternatively, look at the Arosa fitting, from Christopher Wray, which has a 25 cm matt opal globe and brushed-nickel fittings. Reeling out of its 18 cm rod is 77 cm of transparent cable, making it easy to adjust to individual room heights. Another source of this style of pendant fitting is Andy Thornton, who sells an opaque 25 cm globe, reference ATL GME34, on a 76 cm chrome rod.
