Hobs - the essential guide
Whether it's a gas hob or an electric hob, we help you find the perfect design for you
Ceramic hobs
What is it?
A ceramic glass surface over zoned electric elements, which provide radiant heat.
Pros
Looks sleek. Heats up quickly and retains heat, so food stays hot when the hob is turned down. Easy to clean, although you do have to wait for the hob to cool. Can be used with pans made from any material.
Cons
Not as fast or easily controlled as gas or induction. Pans and woks need a flat base. Cheaper models may use less durable glass that can pit if very hot substances splash on it or can be damaged by heavy pans.
Best for
Cooks who don't want to spend a long time cleaning their hob, and want a sleek look at a reasonable price.
