- Spruce, fir or pine?
Never buy a Christmas tree that has already been packed into netting – there is no way of knowing what shape it will be when you unpack it at home and you might end up with an hourglass rather than a nice plump pear shape.
Check the freshness of a tree by running your fingers along the bottom branches. If the branch is flexible (not dried-out) and the needles stay on the branch, then the tree is healthy and fresh.
Ensure you choose one that has full green foliage and take your time to arrange the branches before pruning.
