Why choose ceramic?
If you like the look of stone but worry about the maintenance, ceramic tiles are ideal - cheaper, fire and fade resistant and can help with insulation.
Use ceramic in
Suitable for kitchens, bathrooms and wet rooms. Underfloor heating will take the chill off.
When fitting
Consider imaginative combinations of sizes and using grout in different colours - the width of grout can also make a difference to the finished look. As with stone, variations can occur between packs, so open up a few boxes and mix tiles up before laying.
Maintenance
Is generally easy as ceramic is hard wearing. However, encaustic tiles have to be sealed and unglazed tiles may require more cleaning. Sweep or mop, but avoid using abrasive cleaners.
