There are only a few specialists in the whole country who can deal with stained glass repairs, and one of these is restorer Stephen Byrne of Williams & Byrne. "When part of a painted window is broken," says Stephen, "we find antique handmade glass, with the same texture, ripple and depth of colour, and paint that to match the original exactly. "We create a new section and put a tiny lead or copper-foil join between old and new. We have done our job best of all when no one knows we have done it," he says.
