More is more? Maybe not if you want to sell this Bel Air mansion. At $25m, Chateau d'Or has failed to sell

Well, they say if you have a theme, stick to it, and that's certainly what the owners of this sprawling Bel Air chateau did.

The interiors of Chateau d'Or - a 26,000-square-foot mansion built in 1936 - are best described as flamboyant, and are a fitting testimony as to why less really should mean more.

Filled with enormous decorative chandeliers, drapes and elaborate frescoes, the property has been on the market since February 2010, but has so far failed to attract a buyer - despite a whopping $15million being slashed from the asking price.

The 15-bedroom mansion also features 16 bathrooms, fountains, verandas, European-style grottos, a swimming pool, spa, and a cupola-covered pavilion.

What's not to love?

We can't help thinking a nice neutral scheme may help garner a little more interest, if you can afford the still rather hefty $25million price tag.
