1. The first Eurovision Song Contest was hosted in Switzerland in 1956 and guess what? Switzerland won!
2. There have actually been 53 Eurovision Song Contests but 56 winners. In 1969 four countries tied for first place.
3. The most points ever scored was 292 by Finnish rock group Lordi with ‘Hard Rock Hallelujah’.
4. You are more likely to win if you are a solo female artist. Throughout the years, there have been 27 female winners and only 7 men.
5. Ireland are the most successful winners, wining the competition seven times.
6. The youngest ever winner was 13 year old Sandra Kin from Belgium in 1986.
7. Spain’s wining entry La La La La in 1968 used the word ‘La’ 138 times!
8. A song performed at number 2 has never won the contest and people are starting believe it's cursed.
9. The Eurovision was first broadcast in colour in 1968 from London’s Royal Albert Hall. Cliff Richard came second, beaten by Spain by just one point.
10. The Eurovision is often regarded as tacky and pointless, yet it's estimated that around 100 million people tune in each year to watch.
