Spooky walkabout

Celebrate pumpkins
Thousands gather for the Spalding Pumpkin Festival in Lincolnshire on 7th October to celebrate harvest and horticulture with everything from pumpkin throwing and 'extreme pumpkin carving' to night mazes.
Experience 'Helloween'
From the 15th - 31st October, The London Dungeon unveils its most terrifying event ever. A gruesome 'Stingy Jack' will be back stalking the dark hellish corridors, and if you manage to escape him, you'll be faced with with an infamous recording of the ‘Sounds of Hell' echoing throughout the Dungeon's mirrored labyrinth. Fight your fears
From 6th - 31st October get ready for the ultimate horror experience at Fright Night, Thorpe Park. Face your phobias
The London Bridge Experience and the London Tombs have joined forces to create Phobophobia 2011. From 17th October - 1st November, Phobophobia returns to London Bridge for a terrifying experience, described as the ultimate Halloween show. During the day, the History behind the horror of Halloween takes place between, 10am-6pm 17th October - 1st November (Family friendly). After dark, be prepared for extreme scares - Halloweens most hellish event, from 7pm-Late 27th October-31st October (over 11's only). Child, £14.50 when you book online.
Give the kids' a treat
The Hop Farm will be hosting their annual 'Skeletons and Scarecrow' event, with lots of fun activites for the little ones, including a host of menacing games and spine tingling activities - apple bobbing and broomstick games! Open 10am - 5pm daily, between 22nd - 30th 0ctober. Child £10.80, if pre-booked.
Give yourself a fright
From 15th - 31st October, Scarefest returns to Alton Towers Resort. The 2011 Scarefest promises to be the most spooky yet, with something for thrill seekers and families alike. The theme park will be open until 9pm. Child, £19.44.
Blast from the past
Gruesome and gory tales of residents past await the fearless at Old Wardour Castle, Wiltshire from 29th - 30th October. Join the evening candlelit tours or try less spooky activities for younger visitors. Call 0970 333 1181, english-heritage.org.uk.
Get crafty
Venture into Wilderness Wood's sustainable forest, Hadlow Down, East Sussex on 26th October and gather materials to make scary spiders, wands, witches' brooms or dreamcatchers. Call 01825 830509, wildernesswood.co.uk.
Feed your appetite
