Rowing, cycling, sailing; this sumer our athletes have proved that we are world class competitors as we climb the Olympic medal table. And our designers are showing the world that they are gold-medal worthy too.
The spectacular Olympics opening ceremony introduced one of our leading designers to a global stage with the unveiling of Thomas Heatherwick's spectacular Olympic cauldron. The beautiful beacon has been presiding over the Olympic events for the past 10 days and winning its British designer a new wave of admirers.
A scale model of the cauldron has now been added to the 'Heatherwick Studio - Designing the Extraordinary' exhibition currently running at the V&A. So if you want to see a little piece of Olympic history, and learn more about one the UK's most exciting contemporary designers make sure you visit the exhibition before 30th September 2012.
This is the first major retrospective on the work of Thomas Heatherwick but the chances are you're already familiar with his designs. As well as the eerily beautiful UK Pavilion Seed Cathedral for the Shanghai Expo, Heatherwick studios were also responsible for the futuristic new London bus design currently zipping around town and the extraordinary rolling bridge at Paddington Basin.
We were so inspired by the cauldron we created a petal power moodboard in homage.
