Would you have the latest in gadget beds in your bedroom?

I was watching MTV cribs the other day. In case you're not aware of it, the show takes a peak into celebrities' homes. This particular one was the home of an American rapper, and pretty typical of the houses they show. There were big marble pillars, swimming pools, gigantic fridges and plenty of gold leaf trims - subtle was obviously not the interior designer's strong point.

Then we headed to the bedroom for more gold and marble with the bed taking pride of place in the centre of the room. The owner of the home leapt on and with a flick of a switch very excitedly showed how a TV screen raised itself from the foot of the bed.

It was all very James Bond. However, I've seen a few of these beds now - they've been popping up more frequently in the last year, but not where you'd expect, as well as in fancy interior design stores, the high street has started stocking them, too - with Marks & Spencer launching the Monroe TV bed and John Lewis launching its own version in a few weeks time.

Does this mean that Britain is becoming a bit more bling? Is the nation swapping our standard divans for the latest in gadget beds? Time will tell.

My pop quiz to family and friends revealed that they thought it was a bit over-the-top, but on further probing most revealed they'd secretly get a kick out of flicking the switch. I know I could probably entertain myself for at least 15 minutes watching the screen rise and fall.

Everyone deserves a bit of James Bond glamour in the home - so let's bring on the bling!

Hi Ben I'm not to fond on having a TV so close to my face, I would not like to fall asleep with it still on and being woken by the screech of Dracula's victim in the middle of the night. I think your bedroom is a place for relaxing and enjoying a good book. I bought a great bed from Wayne Maxwell Design (www.waynemaxwell.com) it is clean, simple and a fifth of the price.
