Orange and lemon peel are said to deter cats from gardens

Cats are using my garden to do their "business" and are killing my plants - how can I stop this happening?

Try a few simple, natural and inexpensive solutions to start with. Spreading orange or lemon peel around your garden is said to keep cats away, as they hate citrus scents. If that does not work, grow plants that are supposed to repel felines, such as Coleus canina (scaredy cat), £9.95 for a pack of five from Blooming Direct. This needs to be brushed against to release its scent, so grow it near to where the cats roam. Thorny plant prunings placed around plants might also work. For a more hi-tech option, try the RSPB's CatWatch ultrasonic cat deterrent, £55.99.
