I would love to turn my tiny garden into a camomile lawn. How do I prepare the ground
for this, and should I use the plant to fill the entire space?
Camomile needs an open, sunny spot and well-drained soil. If your soil is heavy, improve the drainage by incorporating organic matter or grit. The plant will struggle in heavy clay or light, very stony soil and does not do well in too much shade. Prepare the planting area by removing all weeds, including any grass, as this will compete with and eventually replace the camomile. Buy plants in trays of rooted runners or in pots that you can then divide, and plant them 15cm apart to fill the space. ‘Treneague' (pictured) is a non-flowering dwarf cultivar that is good for growing as a lawn.
