Neaten the lawn
If you are not leaving it to grow into something more like an organic meadow, the lawn can be mowed now, but avoid doing it when the grass is very wet. Collect the cuttings and compost, or leave to rot back into the ground. -

Consider the soil quality
Plant hostas in spring, when new crown tips show, and position them in full or partial shade. The site should be well-drained but not dry, with neutral to acid, rich loam soil. -
Nurture and nourish
When planting, dig a hole twice the diameter and one and a half times the depth of the root ball. Tease the roots apart before planting and water lightly for the first two weeks, applying foliar feed throughout the growing season. -
Opt for stylish storage
Box files covered in wallpaper offer chic storage.
The box files are all from Designers Guild and the ribbons can be found at V V Rouleaux -
Colour co-ordinate
The majority of garden clematis are in shades of purple, blue and white, but there are pink and scarlet varieties too. White and green-hued varieties, such as C. Peppermint 'Evipo005', look stunning grown through or beside sculpted evergreens. This plant has double mint-white flowers and is best planted in a semi-shaded spot. -

Colour co-ordinate
Combine a multitude of patterns in tonal colours to create a cutting-edge look. Add in a few plain fabrics or accessories to make sure the look isn't overpowering.
The walls are covered in Ashanti on Paper in Chartreuse from Kirk Brummel at Brunschwig & Fils and the headboard is in Conga Line in Moss Aqua on Tinted Linen from China Seas at Tissus d'Hélène. The table lamp is by Paolo Moschino for Nicholas Haslam -
Place favourite pieces on a sideboard
Turn a diverse collection into a structural work of art: use glass domes to add another aspect to your ceramics, just as you would use a frame to focus and draw the eye to a picture.
The ceramic candlestick is from Few and Far, and the porcelain speckled finch is from Shan Annabelle Valla, while the porcelain owl is from SCP. The pears are both from Penkridge Ceramics, and the small glass dome can be found at Selfridges -
Create a unique display
A witty display of portraits of Dachshunds mounted on animal-print backgrounds provides unique, personal style.
The dog portraits are by Clare Ormerod and framed by John Jones and the walls are painted in Luna Landscape 2 from Dulux.
