10 of the best electric kettles
Before you buy...
- Speciality teas are going down a storm (in a teacup), but each one reacts differently to the temperature of the water used. So while you should use boiling for black teas like Ceylon, 60-80ºC is best for green teas; 75-85ºC for white teas and 90ºC for camomile. Happily, variable-temperature kettles let you heat the water to a choice of temperatures, and will often keep it warm, too.
- If you’re on a budget and/or you only ever drink black teas, you can still improve the taste and look of your drink by buying a Brita filter kettle that removes the limescale, chlorine, lead, copper and other impurities that would otherwise taint your tea.
- All about looks? A statement kettle may lack a snazzy Brita filter or choice of temperatures, but will still feature a removable limescale filter and will certainly brighten up your tea break. As is the case with all the kettles featured, the higher the wattage the faster the boil, but the more energy the kettle will use.
