Buyer's guide to desks
Before you buy...
1) Think about the location
This will dictate the style of desk you choose, as well as its size. In a living area, avoid anything that will dominate the room. In a spare room, you may be able to go for a larger piece with plenty of storage inside. 2) Choose a style to suit your purpose If your desk will primarily be
a home for your PC, pick one that works with your computer setup, whether it’s a simple console desk for your laptop or something more storage-heavy that can house a monitor, tower and printer, and look for designs with holes to pass cables through. Make sure the desk is an appropriate size and height for the tasks you’ll be doing. Ensure there’s adequate space for your legs and that your feet are firmly on the floor. 4) Consider materials Wood, wood veneers and laminates look attractive and come in a wide range of styles, but can be prone to scratches. Metal desks are cheaper and sturdy enough for heavy use, but might look out of place in a classic scheme. Treviso Oak desk, £999, Ercol range at John Lewis
