Buyer's guide to sideboards
Before you buy...
1) Mix don't match
Whether you're into cosy country or tough industrial style, there's a sideboard to suit every dining room. Just don't choose one from the same range as your other dining furniture - it's meant to stand out, not blend in.
2) Choose the right proportion
Sizes vary from the standard two or three-door sideboard, to the more contemporary, long-and-low four-door option. Work out how much space you can spare without the sideboard dwarfing the room - or being dwarfed.
3) Doors or drawers
Don't forget the obvious - a sideboard might have dashing good looks, but does it have cupboard space for your huge party platter and enough drawers for all your napkins, best cutlery and cake stands?
