Shell chair in Paul Smith fabric from Kvadrat

Just a few of Hans J Wegner's three-legged Shell chairs were produced when it was designed in 1963, but when the chair was relaunched in 1997 it finally gained the popularity that had evaded it 34 years previously.

This year's new collaboration with Paul Smith gives the sexy classic a modern signature that promises to inspire a whole new generation of Danish design devotees.

'A chair is to have no backside. It should be beautiful from all sides and angles', Wegner said. With its organic curves and gorgeous, come-hither incline, the Shell chair definitely lives up to its manifesto.
