Natural-look Christmas wreath decoration

How to create a timeless Christmas look

Take a browse though our gallery of room ideas and find out how to use artificial decorations to create a timeless Christmas display with pieces that you can use year after year.

One of the best ways to achieve a sophisticated scheme is with artificial decorations that look natural, or have a subtle shimmer.

Create a warm welcome for guests with a festive display in the hallway. Hang a large wall mirror above a console table and dress with a faux garland and add a traditional-style advent calendar on the table. Fresh flowers, a table lamp and tealight holders will add shimmer to the display.

Opt for a natural-look wreath, for example with white or red berries to complement your colour scheme. Wreaths can be used to decorate a number of areas. Consider grouping three or four wreaths together to line the staircase wall, or hang on the front door using lengths of velvet ribbon; both ideas will give a traditional hallway a beautiful look.

Alternatively, display a red berry wreath on the mantelpiece beside the mirror and surround with other pieces such as garlands or votives.

Faux flowers can look very effective in contemporary arrangements. Display Christmas flowers such as amaryllis and hellebores on a console or sideboard, or choose a row of single stems in clear glass vases for the dining table. If you want to lift a winter room scheme, white flowers will look great in rooms that are decorated in rich tones such as charcoal or chocolate brown.

For a smart table setting, choose classic white porcelain and stemware and lift with napkins in a vibrant colour such as yellow or gold. Finish the place setting with a sparkling silver leaf sprig decoration.

And, of course, no Christmas decorating scheme is complete without a beautiful tree decorated with leaf garlands and twinkling white lightsÂ…
