When people say the ‘Seven Wonders of the World,' what do you think?
When people say the ‘Seven Wonders of the World,' what do you think? The Pyramids? The Taj Mahal? Well, we've got news for you, there are actually blimin' loads! There are so many variations of what people consider as the ‘Wonders of the World' that trying to decipher which are and which aren't can get a little confusing; so what's the answer? To be honest, we don't think that one definitive list exists anymore. There are so many beautiful sights and interesting pieces of architecture in the world right now, that to reduce it to just seven would be impossible! So, if you looking to do a bit of travelling, or fancy trying one of those luxury cruise holidays, or even if you're just after a quick getaway, then we have the something for you! Here are our favourite Wonders of the World.
The Amazon
THE perfect escape from modernity, the Amazon is definitely one of nature's beauties. Spanning across five and half million square kilometres, this rainforest has to be one of the most stunning sights on the planet. Home to a whole host of tropical plants and animals, visiting here would be an unparalleled experience. However, we don't expect you to go all George of Jungle on us, swinging through the trees. Luckily, there are other options! There are now cruises which guide you through the wonders of the Amazon, allowing you to just relax and enjoy the view. Fred Olsen Cruises are a good example of this as these provide fantastic selection of forest trails and excursions to get you fully immersed in Amazon life.
Machu Picchu
Listed as a World Heritage Site, Machu Picchu is one of the world's hidden gems. Located in the centre of a tropical mountain forest; this piece of architecture stands as a beautiful relic of the Inca civilization. With walls and terraces reaching 2,430 metres above sea level, this World Wonder has grown to become an integral part of Peru, so if you intend on visiting this country, don't forget to visit this prestigious landmark.
Grand Canyon
Considered as one the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, the Grand Canyon, without fail, always leaves its visitors in awe. Based in Arizona, this canyon attracts five million visitors each year thanks to the quality of experience which it offers. What's more, this trip is no ordinary sightseeing trip as there are so many more opportunities available. Tourists can camp near the Grand Canyon, participate in a helicopter tour, and even involve themselves in hiking activities available; what better way to witness this Wonder!
Table Mountain
If you're eager to see the views of South Africa, then Table Mountain is the place to do it. Providing the idyllic scenic backdrop to a very vibrant city, this spot is classed as one of the ‘New7Wonders of Nature;' an initiative introduced in 2007 as a way of encouraging other beautiful sites to become recognised, which it has definitely done. Now people can use the cableway to travel up the mountain, absorbing all the treats South Africa has to offer with it.
